- SaxonQ awarded the Saxon Founders Award by the Free State of Saxony for its mobile quantum computer
- More than 100 applications submitted / Award ceremony held at the futureSAX Innovation Conference on June 25 in Dresden
- Industry-ready quantum computer based on diamond technology, operating at room temperature in any environment
Leipzig/Dresden – The Leipzig-based startup SaxonQ was honored yesterday evening with the Saxon Founders Award in the “Startup of the Year” category. The award ceremony took place as part of the futureSAX Innovation Conference in Dresden.
Mobile Quantum Computers for Industry
SaxonQ develops and manufactures mobile quantum computers that – unlike many conventional systems – can operate at room temperature. Initial systems are already in use at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Fraunhofer Society.
Quantum computers are considered to be many times more powerful than classical computers and could soon solve complex challenges in medical research, energy supply, logistics, and artificial intelligence.
Co-founder and CEO Prof. Marius Grundmann: “This award affirms our path: developing a commercially viable quantum computing technology that can fundamentally change how we process data in the coming years. That we were able to build this in Leipzig and Saxony is thanks to the proximity to cutting-edge research, strong public support, and a robust semiconductor ecosystem. It’s a clear signal that tech-driven startups from this region can succeed.”
About the Saxon Founders Award
The Saxon Founders Award is presented annually by the Free State of Saxony to recognize the best innovative business ideas and startup concepts. It is part of the futureSAX initiative, led by the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour, and Transport. In 2025, more than 100 applications were submitted. The winners are selected through a multi-stage process by a jury of experts from business, science, and politics. The award is considered one of the most prestigious honors for young companies in Saxony.

About SaxonQ
Quantum computers have the potential to be significantly more powerful than traditional computers and could solve complex problems in medical research, energy supply, logistics, or artificial intelligence in the future. The Leipzig-based startup SaxonQ, founded in 2021, has succeeded in constructing an industrial-grade quantum computer – moving away from the traditional bulky installations towards a compact, flexible box. Unlike previous quantum computers, these processors do not require cooling or complex infrastructure and are resistant to disturbances. The system is already being used by major clients and aims to enable entirely new applications for quantum computers, such as in satellites, autonomous driving, or even in smartphones in a few years.
